Teaching;

Margaret was faculty member at Cal State LA Saturday Conservatory.  She also teaches privately.  She especially loves teaching children from 9 to 18.  Cal State provided scholarships for low income students.

A favorite memory was of arranging for two of my shy young students to play at a nursing home for their holiday dinner. The students got their first performing experience and were showered with love from the residents who were delighted with them. Everyone was really thrilled. It was a win win situation.

Music for healing :

  • Was harpist for Kay Gardner, scholar on music for healing, composer, recording artist, and author of Sounding the Inner Landscape
  • Has accompanied yoga classes of Sari Heifetz
  • Has accompanied massages at Kimura Shiatsu Massage in Tokyo and back massages in the lobby at Sports Club LA
  • Has played at bedsides in hospitals and nursing homes including the burn unit at LA County Hospital which was especially meaningful and also played for people in transition
  • Accompanied both massages and poetry readings for yearly Goddess for a Day fundraiser for children in foster care

Women’s music:

  • Performed at Michigan Women’s Music Festival and also National Women’s Music Festival
  • Performed harp with Cyntia Smith and Ruth Barrett
  • Recordings: Kay Gardner, Garden of Ecstacy, A Castle in the Mist, Music As Medicine
  • Margaret played the world Premier of A Rainbow Path with Kay Gardner at the National Women’s Music Festival
I remember a blissful memory on the acoustic stage of the outdoor Michigan Women’s Music Festival. “I along with Kay Gardner, Flutist, and Becky Kite timpani player were improvising accompanying a woman telling the aborigines tale of Star Girl, a story of how the stars were made. At a point in the story, Star Girl throws burning coals in the sky to light the way for travelers and I play a sweeping glissando. From the stage we hear a chorus of women’s “Ahh’s” Later women approached us telling us that shooting stars flew across the sky at that moment.

Art, Theater, Poetry, and Storytelling

  • Played harp and arranged all of the music for While Summer Days do Last
  • Midsummer Night’s Dream on stage in Walden Theater — the creative Will Oldham playing Nick Bottom.  "I enjoyed providing the magic potion harp sounds for Puck's spells”
  • Has enjoyed accompanying storytellers and poets on several occasions including the poetry of Viggo Mortenson
  • Played harp, washboard and spoons in Quilters at Actors Theater of Louisville Margaret recalls, “I was surprised by a gift of a historical family quilt by my parents just before I was asked to play this job. Quilters recounts the stories of early women pioneers."
  • Played for a variety of art exhibits.  She has prepared appropriate period programs for The Forbes Collection , The Armand Hammer Collection, and a turn of the century French landscape exhibit at the L.A. County Museum of Art
